Scripture meets us differently depending on where our hearts are. The verse you need when you are grieving is not the verse you need when you are grateful.
My Bible Verse began with a simple idea: that Scripture meets us differently depending on where our hearts are. The same person needs a different word when they are grieving than when they are grateful, anxious than when they are at rest. Rather than searching blindly, this site lets you begin with something you already know — how you feel today — and receive a verse chosen to speak into exactly that.
Choose from a range of emotional states, and you'll receive a fitting passage of Scripture, a thoughtful explanation of what it means and why it might matter to you now, and a gentle prompt to reflect. You can read every verse in three public-domain translations — the World English Bible, the King James Version, and the American Standard Version — and there's a fresh verse of the day each time you visit.
All Scripture on this site is drawn from translations in the public domain, freely available for anyone to read and share. The explanations and reflections are original, written to open up each verse plainly and personally rather than to replace deeper study.
You'll notice the word "Selah" above each reflection prompt. It appears throughout the Psalms, and while its exact meaning is debated, it is widely understood as an invitation to pause — to stop, breathe, and let what was just said sink in. That is exactly what the reflection prompt is for.
Anything you type into the reflection box stays in your own browser — nothing is saved or sent anywhere. My Bible Verse is meant to be an unhurried, private corner of the internet: a place to pause.
